These photographs were taken in the courtyard of our home in Riverside, California, where my husband grew several rose plants. Every year, I looked forward to seeing the first buds appear and watching them slowly unfold into beautiful blooms. On this particular day, I spent some time photographing the roses at different stages, from tightly closed buds to petals fully opened in the sunlight.
